The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is a policy under the European Green Deal. The EU is currently Vietnam’s third largest export market. Therefore, the EU’s import-related policies all more or less impact Vietnam’s export businesses. Experts assess that cement, iron and steel, aluminum, fertilizer, hydrogen and electricity are the first sectors affected by CBAM. Therefore, these businesses need to prepare and plan to face the new EU mechanisms.

Although the CBAM mechanism is a big challenge for some export industries, it is also a motivation for businesses to proactively transform green, towards sustainable development standards. The export market’s application of taxes on carbon-emitting goods not only promotes businesses directly exporting to green transformation but is also a motivation for other businesses to participate in the carbon credit market. This is a potential trading market and will be vibrant in the near future, creating added value for businesses.
